Destination info

Contributor content provided by Kathrin Borgwardt at Kitesurf Mindoro

Destination Overview: Mindoro is excellent for beginner and advanced kitesurfers as well as for families or people traveling in groups.

Kitespot(s) Overview: In front of Kitesurf-Mindoro there is a private shallow bay with side-onshore wind from the left protected by an outside reef. Outside there are 10 islands nearby and all easily reachable by kite. It's possible to kite every day at a different spot!

Other activities & things to do: There are plenty of other activities besides kitesurfing: massage, yoga, trail running, standup paddle, cooking classes, diving, snorkeling, waterfalls, caving, etc. You can explore mountains nearby: discover the Mt. Iglit National Park with the wild buffalo herds, or cross the mountains guided by the tribal Mangyan people.

There's also full-on mountain expeditions like the Mt Iglit climb or Mindoro crossing from the East to the West on the Mangyan trails.

Must try: 5-day Kitesafari covering the islands and sandbars, Daytrip Downwind to Liwagao and Nagubat island.

Best beginner spot(s) in the area: Bislig Beach. It's a shallow area protected by an outside reef with side-onshore wind.

Best flat water spot(s) in the area: Bislig Beach, Aslom Island and Nagubat

Best wave spot(s) in the area: none

Downwinders: plenty of downwind possibilities: Suguicay - Bislig, Bislig to Liwagao and Nagubat, Bislig to Aslom etc.

Significant wind patterns: The kite season is from November till April with Amihan wind blowing 24/7. The strongest months are December, January, and February: small kites only!

After-kite drinks or other notable bars & restaurants: There's not too much nightlife in the area- campfires or a drink at the resort bars can be had if you still have any energy after your day in paradise!
