Destination Overview: Friendly helpful, fun locals make kiteboarding in Cabarete really special! Consistent winds, warm water all year round, surfing at Encuentro, and great nightlife ensure there is something for everyone. The kitespot is 20min away from the airport, making Cabarete one of the most easily accessible holiday kiteboard destinations. There's also a ton of "kite-in kite-out" accommodation where you launch so you can just hit the water when you see the wind; no car required!
Kitespot(s) Overview: Cabarete is an excellent kiteboarding destination due to its steady trade winds all winter and the strong trade wind plus sea breeze during summer. Summer mornings are perfect for foilboarding, and it's not crowded at all. Winter afternoons on the reef make for awesome wave riding.

Best beginner spot(s) in the area: The two main kite spots: Cabarete Bay and Kite Beach.
Best flat water spot(s) in the area: La Boca (20 minutes away, advanced riders only as it's very small.) The best beginner flatwater spot is Buen Hombre, a few hours away, however.
Best wave spot(s) in the area: Encuentro and the downwinder from LEK to Encuentro is pretty epic!
Significant wind patterns: trade winds and thermals.
After-kite drinks or other notable bars & restaurants: Cabarete has a dozen bars and restaurants right on the sand overlooking the kite spot. Yalla, Aqua, Mojito bar, Lax/Ojo, Leaf, and more.
