Destination Overview: An all-around destination that’s great for family and friends. There’s consistent sun, no snow, an incredible friendly ocean to swim in, a yoga studio that will surprise you, diving, and more. Being one with the sun and the sea, what more could you ask for? There’s also a friendly local population and safe village to hang out in at night.
Kitespot(s) Overview: The primary teaching spot is kite beach. The wind here is more side-onshore and can be wavy, but it is excellent for all levels. There is the Bay of Santa Maria as well. This is for intermediate to advanced kiters as the wind is more side-off shore. Punta Preta bay offers flat water, but more off-shore wind. The water is enticing and warm; just watch out for the turtles on your way out!
Other activities & things to do: Yoga: www.yogacaboverde.com, I highly recommend this place. Diving, surf, windsurfing, sailing trips, quad tours, reading, sleeping, dancing… this is an island paradise!
Best beginner spot(s) in the area: Kite beach. But be wary of deep ocean conditions.
Best flat water spot(s) in the area: Bay of Punta Preta.
Best wave spot(s) in the area: The reef on the outside of Kite Beach, Punta Preta (for more advanced wave riders).
Downwinders: Kite beach to Bay of Santa Maria.
Significant wind patterns: Trade winds blow from November until the end of May. The wind is generally North East.
After-kite drinks or other notable bars & restaurants: Sooo many! Santa Maria village is 3 roads and full of places to eat, drink, and dance.
